# KNOWLEDGE BASE: ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (EMS)

## ⚡ Overview
Orbit EMS is an enterprise-grade Energy Management System built to comply with **ISO 50001** and the **International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) Option B**.
By capturing high-resolution sub-meter consumption registers, Orbit isolates operational waste and automates energy reviews.

## ⚙️ Multivariate Energy Baselines
Legacy EMS platforms rely solely on static historical consumption (e.g., comparing last year's gas consumption to this year's). Orbit utilizes multivariate regression that correlates:
1. **Physical Utility Inputs**: Electricity (kWh, kVA, kVAr), Gas ($m^3$), Steam (tons/hr).
2. **Manufacturing Outputs**: Active stock keeping units (SKUs) and volume output.
3. **Ambient variables**: Outdoor humidity and dry-bulb temperatures.

This allows the platform to calculate a dynamic **Specific Energy Consumption (SEC)** metric:
$$SEC = \frac{Energy\ Ingested}{Production\ Units\ (SKUs)}$$

## 📈 Peak Demand Load Shaving
In industrial zones, utility companies charge heavy penalties for peak kVA demand limit breaches.
Orbit EMS tracks active power demand in real-time, executing predictive load calculations:
- **Trend Forecasts**: Auto-project demand paths for the next 15 minutes.
- **Load Shedding Alerts**: If a breach is projected, the AI Coordination engine triggers SMS/Email warnings, or interfaces directly with plant PLCs to shift active heating elements, cooling racks, or boiler sequences.
- **Tariff Synchronization**: Aligns high-load machine actions with lower-tariff utility windows (such as STEG off-peak hours in Tunisia).
